ルール助動詞（can・must・should・may・will など）のあとの動詞は、主語が何でも必ず原形にすること。must not（～してはいけない）と don’t have to（～する必要はない）は意味がちがうので、日本語の意味から選ぶこと。

7. 日本語を英語にする（各4点×5＝20点）
  1. 私は今日、母を手伝わなければなりません。 I have to help my mother today.（別解: have to は must でも可）
  2. あなたはここでサッカーをしてはいけません。 You must not play soccer here.（mustn’t）
  3. 彼は日曜日に働く必要はありません。 He doesn’t have to work on Sundays.（does not／on Sunday でも可）
  4. （いっしょに）公園へ行きましょうか。 Shall we go to the park?（Let’s go to the park. は「行きましょう」とさそう文。「～しましょうか」とたずねるのは Shall we ～?）
  5. 窓を開けてくれませんか。 Will you open the window?（別解: Will は Can・Could でも可。Could you ～? がいちばんていねい）

採点が終わったら：どの型で落としたかを見る

点数より「どの大問を落としたか」が大事です。落とした大問を下の表で引くと、原因と対策がわかります。

落とした大問原因対策
1助動詞のあとの形can・could・must・should・may・will のあとは、主語が何でも動詞の原形（can plays・must are は×）。maybe は副詞なので助動詞の代わりにならない。have to と be going to は、主語に合わせて has to／is going to などに変える。
2must not と don’t have to の取りちがえmust not（mustn’t）は「～してはいけない」（禁止）、don’t have to は「～する必要はない・しなくてもよい」。肯定文の must と have to はほぼ同じ意味なのに、否定文にすると意味が大きく変わる。must には過去形も will must の形もないので、過去は had to、未来は will have to。
3過去・否定・疑問への書きかえ過去の「～しなければならなかった」は had to（musted は×）。have to の否定文は don’t／doesn’t have to、疑問文は Do／Does ～ have to …? で、答えも do／does を使う。禁止の Don’t ～. は You must not ～.、Let’s ～. は Shall we ～? と言いかえられる。
4依頼・申し出への答え方Shall I ～?（～しましょうか）→ Yes, please.／No, thank you.。Shall we ～?（いっしょに～しましょうか）→ Yes, let’s.／No, let’s not.。Will you／Could you ～?（～してくれませんか）→ Sure.／Sorry, I can’t.。May I ～?（～してもいいですか）→ Sure.／Of course.。Must I ～? に No で答えるときは No, you don’t have to.（No, you must not. は「してはいけない」）。
5語順が作れない否定は〈助動詞＋not＋原形〉（may not come）、have to の否定は〈don’t／doesn’t have to＋原形〉。依頼・申し出の疑問文は〈Could you／Shall I＋原形 ～?〉の順。
6英文の意味の取りちがえmust not は「～してはいけない」、don’t have to は「～しなくてもよい」、may は「～かもしれない」（May I ～? では「～してもよいですか」）、Could you ～? は「～していただけませんか」というていねいな依頼。
7日本語からの組み立て「～しなければならない」は must／have to、「～してはいけない」は must not、「～する必要はない」は don’t have to、「～しましょうか」は Shall we[I] ～?、「～してくれませんか」は Will[Could] you ～?。まず日本語の意味から助動詞を決め、あとは原形を続ける。

80点未満だったときの、やり直し順

  1. 大問1で「助動詞のあとは原形」と has to／doesn’t have to の形を固める
  2. 大問2・6で must not（禁止）と don’t have to（不要）の意味の違いをはっきりさせる
  3. 大問3で過去（had to）・否定文・疑問文への書きかえを反復する
  4. 大問4で Shall I／Shall we／Will you／May I／Must I への答え方を覚える
  5. 大問5・7で語順と英作文を仕上げる
